Two Planes Collided

SYDNEY: Two women were killed Thursday when a couple of light planes crashed while flying over suburban Sydney, causing one of them to collide into the garden of a home and rupture into flames.

The two women, supposed to be in their 20s, were marked dead at the sight after their single-engine plane crashed in Casula, New South Wales, police said in a report. Nobody was in the house at the time of the crash.

In the other plane, the pilot, 25, and male instructor, 89,landed safely at a nearby airport, police said. Neither was offended and their single-engine plane continued only minor harm. Officials were questioning the pair and have launched an investigation into the accident.

Cricket is safe in pakistan - Imran Khan

imran khan pakistan

In an interview with Australian media the legend Imran Khan said that cricket is safe in Pakistan. Pakistani people love cricket. The terrorist activities does not link to people choice sofar. I know that cricketers would never be under any threat from terrorists,” The News quoted Imran as saying in an interview with Australian Television.

He added: “Terrorists rely on support from the masses because that’s where they get their recruits, and cricket is a game which is so loved and there’s such passion in Pakistan that the terrorists know that if a cricket match is bombed, they’ve had it. The public will just turn against them.”

He said those who wanted to destabilise Pakistan “would not risk alienating their support base by attacking cricketers”.

Australia have not toured Pakistan for a decade and abandoned a visit earlier this year because of security concerns. In August, Australia also pulled out of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, which subsequently postponed the tournament till next year.

PCB lashed out at cricket Australia

Indopak talk

, ,

The Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday lashed out at Cricket Australia for saying yes to India tour despite Saturday’s bomb blasts in New Delhi and accused them of adopting ‘double standard’ on security issues.

Paul Marsh, the Chief Executive of the Australian Cricketers Association, had earlier expected some countries, apparently Pakistan, to come up with such statement.

Australia had postponed their tour to Pakistan early this year and also refused to play in the Champions Trophy because of security concerns.

“I think if Australia tour India it will only highlight their double standards on security issues,” Shafqat Naghmi, chief operating officer of the PCB told reporters in Lahore.

“Pakistan is as safe a country as India and we had even promised state level security for the Australians and other teams. This incident only shows the double standards of Australian cricket,” Naghmi fumed.

Cricket Australia has said they were postponing or cancelling the India tour due to the Delhi blasts unless they were advised by their government otherwise.

Naghmi said the PCB was disappointed with the statement of the ACA as even the ICC and other countries had acknowledged the great efforts made by Pakistan to provide a safe environment for the Champions Trophy.

“Terrorist attacks can take place anywhere we have said constantly. No country is safer than the other and this point was highlighted after the unfortunate and sad incident in Delhi,” he said.

“We find it hard to comprehend that when Australian cricketers can tour a country which has had a succession of bomb attacks what is so different about coming to Pakistan,” Naghmi added.

Ponting Hailed Gilchrist for his unbelievable

australian player

Australian skipper Ricky Ponting hailed Adam Gilchrist for his unbelievable” 149 after sweeping to an unprecedented hat-trick of consecutive World Cup titles on Saturday. Wicketkeeper Gilchrist scored the biggest and fastest hundred in a World Cup final to cap Australia’s virtually unchallenged run through the tournament with a 53-run victory over Sri Lanka at the Kensington Oval. He hasn’t played a better one,” Ponting said. “To go out in a World Cup final and play 149 off 104 balls, hardly missed the middle of the bat for most of the day, it is an unbelievable innings. Matty Hayden in many ways has been the batsman of the tournament and he (Gilchrist) has been at the other end looking pretty shaky and scratching. There was one difference in both teams today, in the outcome of the game and that was Gilly’s innings. To take the game away from the opposition as Gilly did was pretty special stuff and to happen in the final says a lot about the bloke. Gilchrist has scored half centuries at least in each of his three World Cup final appearances.

Australia will visit Pakistan twice in the next two years, Cricket Australia (CA) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have confirmed. The sides will contest five one-day internationals and a Twenty20 match in April and May 2009 and a three-Test series in August and September 2010. The world champions had planned to tour Pakistan in March and April this year but cancelled over security concerns. PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf said in a statement: “Although disappointed that the tour couldn’t be completed as originally scheduled, the PCB is very pleased that the Australian team will come to play in Pakistan twice, in 2009 and again in 2010. Australian cricketer provoked Harbhajan singh

Christchurch: Former India coach John Wright suspects there was an Australian provocation behind Harbhajan Singh’s on-field outburst during the Sydney Test and said the outrage against the three-Test ban on the off spinner stems from a sense of injustice.

“I don’t believe Harbhajan was talking in a vacuum out there, knowing how the Australians play the game in the middle,” he said. Wright said he knew both Harbhajan and Symonds from his time as the Kent coach and he said both are lively players but “good boys”.

“But it’s not a church out there and I can’t believe there was silence,” he said. “Things are said in the heat of the moment, but it’s important players from both sides take a deep breath and step back,” Wright suggested.

On the tumultuous reaction cerated by the ban on Harbhajan, Wright said, “I think India believes justice has not been seen to be done.”
Wright, who had a fruitful five-year stint with the Indian team, felt it was not the defeat, but the circumstances that led to the result, that has upset the Indians.

India have no problem in accepting a defeat but the series of umpiring howlers and the racism row have left them with a sense of injustice, said Wright.

Big names lesser efficiency

I am watching the Indian series against Australia. I feel no winning gesture in top ranks of Indian side. The enthusiasm which were seen during T20 was missing but why?

I think inclusion of big names is the factor. The body language of Indian team says that they are down. They should try the same combinations as they did in T20 without the cricket bosses.

Hopefully the results will be different.

May criticises cricket’s schedule

Tim May has criticised the ICC regarding the sheer number of matches countries are expected to play, highlighting the ridiculous schedule facing Australia and India later this year. The two sides will face each other 21 times in 8 months, but their packed intinerary is just the peak of the mountain. We’ve known this would happen for years yet the ICC continue to pile on the matches and honour the boards’ and TV companies’ greed, at the players’ and spectactors’ expense.
“They were already playing each other 18 times and now they’ve thrown in another three (in Ireland),” May said. “We’re concerned about that. Players have a passion for the game and want to maintain that passion every time they play. But it’s becoming harder to play every game as though it’s their last.
“No one wants a two-bit product where blokes are only giving 75 percent because that’s all they’ve got [...]

Brett Lee confirmed out of 2007 World Cup

It is official that Brett Lee won’t be going to the 2007 World Cup, and it will be Stuart Clark that replaces him. For all Clark’s obvious abilities at Test level, there’s no doubt who is the more dangerous bowler with the white ball, and this is another blow to the Australians.
Despite all their troubles, Australia are still favourites with the British bookies. Some of these prices are remarkable, to be honest. South Africa at 9/2 look a bargain to me.

Back from California: omarlovescricket returns to cricket blogging

Ah - I’m back from sunny San Francisco. It was a welcome break away from the bitter cold. Though, upon my return, I learned that the weather this past weekend at home was actually pretty warm. Balls! Such is my luck.
What you missedFans and haters of omarlovescricket must visit the Bay area at some point. There is no cricket there, unfortunately, but there are plenty of wineries, even more wineries, spectacular views and great food! It’s a beautiful city. Very picturesque.
Cricket stuff I missedUpon my return, I was excited to learn that Australia have been white-washed in New Zealand. Well that’s spectacular news! Always refreshing to see the great Aussies getting whipped. Naturally, Gilchrist followed up their embarrassing series loss with the expected, “We didn’t really want to tour New Zealand in the first place” argument. Well, Mr. Gilchrist, boo fucking hoo!
Mathew Hayden smashed 181 runs! Bloody hell. King can’t [...]

Australian media reflect culture of winning

I can’t help but enjoy Australia’s slip from grace. I’m British and it’s my absolute right. Most of all though it’s the Australian media which really gets me going.
Australia only need lose once and immediately, without prejudice or loyalty, their champion side is reduced to a bunch of complete losers. When they enter a losing streak, as they have in the past two weeks, the headlines make hilarious reading: “hapless,” “demoralised,” “licking wounds,” “Australia agony”. It goes on and is completely, brilliantly merciless. Until they win, and they’ll once again be hailed as the greatest sporting side in the history of the planet.
I’m probably completely wrong, but the turncoat style of Australia’s papers is in some ways a microcosm of a society which simply cannot accept losing. Ever. In any form, at anything. And this isn’t to say the criticism isn’t valid - Australia have been shoddy, no mistake. It’s [...]
