Woolmer was strangulated with a towel, says Jamaican police

Who killed Woolmer and why is still lingering in everyone’s mind. The Pakistani cricket coach was found dead in his hotel room, the very day his team crashed out of the world cup after being thrashed by minnows Ireland. Initially, it was thought that he died of heart attack, but later on, the foul play in his death got noticed.

Woolmer was found in an unconscious state in his hotel room on March 18. His bathroom was covered in blood and vomit. The Jamaican police are scanning every angle as to what and who caused Bob’s death. Now, the thinking goes that Bob Woolmer’s killer or killers may have used a length of fabric to strangle him. He was throttled with a towel or a piece of cloth rather than bare hands. 58-year-old former England batsman died from asphyxia as a result of manual strangulation.

Mark Shields, Jamaica’s deputy police commissioner, said:

There are no physical marks on the neck of the victim, therefore there may have been something between the hands of the assailant and the victim.

Investigators are awaiting the results of toxicology and blood tests which would find the time of death. Once that is established they will be able to narrow their study of CCTV footage of the entrance to the elevator and corridor on the 12th floor.

There are speculations galore over the murder. But, not a crude result. Thinking goes that he might have been a victim of an enraged fan, a match-fixing conspiracy or a row with Pakistan players or officials. Nothing is clear as to now. The Jamaican police do not want to leave any loopholes into the enquiry.

It is hoped that the curtain over the murder would be soon raised and the guilty punished. Only that would do justice to Woolmer.
